WE RISE BY SERVING OTHERS
With the Beeja mantra of Shiva Bhave Jeev Seva, Saaraakassh took its first steps in October 2015.
A not-for-profit trust, Saaraakassh for the last 4 years has been distributing food packets to around 40-50 poor people on a daily basis in the Dombivili area. What started as an Anna daanam initiative later spread its wings in many directions. Saaraakassh shaped its mission of Sarvadaanam which encompasses not only Annadaanam but Vidyadaanam, Aushadadaanam, Vastudaanam, Vastradaanam and daanam in any capacity based on the needs of the poor, underprivileged and down trodden people of our society.
To bring a smile to every wanting soul is Saaraakassh's vision.
THE ROAD AHEAD
While traversing our journey, we learnt that a single minded focus and vision yields better results. Saaraakassh now believes in adopting one village at a time and to work with a holistic approach to provide better education, sanitation, health & self help.
In the first village Musrundi, Saaraakassh took up the herculean task of bringing water to the village from the Murbadi river which is 4 kms away from the village through forest terrain by laying a pipeline. To make the water potable, a filtration plant too was installed.
The second village, Pejwadi ahead of Tokawade on Malshej Ghat Road, is an Adivasi village where our initial success was in fighting malnutrition by holding medical camps, and later donating ayurvedic medicines, and supplementary food and milk to help curb malnutrition. In an effort to make the village open defecation free, we took up the project of building 38 toilets and successfully completed this by October 2018. We have now started work in our third adivasi village, Karpatwadi , where along with sanitation & health we are also focusing on Life skills workshops for children and training the villagers in natural farming techniques without use of pesticides and fertilizers. Taking this a step ahead we ourselves will be farming on the Subhash Palekar model for the village to witness its benefits.
Saaraakassh has now streamlined its vision into certain processes that henceforth would be practiced. Our three major aims hereafter would be on the Three E's:
Eradicating Malnutrition:
By providing Gud-chikki, Kharik, Milk with Ashwagandha powder to the Zilla Parishad schools to be served with their midday meal.
By regular Medical camps where Ayurvedic Doctors examine the villagers, especially children and give appropriate medicines for their health needs.
By repairing/maintaining kitchen sheds for Anganwadi and Zilla parishad schools so that healthy midday meals get prepared regularly for the students.
Encouraging Sanitation:
By building/repairing/maintaining Toilets for the Zilla parishad Schools.
Holding talks to explain how to keep their surroundings clean and helping them in this endeavour by arranging shramadaan by students/volunteers.
By building water tanks and pipelines to store drinking water and have a proper water supply of clean, drinking water.
Enabling Education:
By distributing education related stationery including books, pencils, colours, school bags, etc to facilitate learning.
Setting up libraries in schools by providing story books.
Holding workshops on life skills with children to facilitate their overall development.
Holding learning classes by urban students/ volunteers to help strengthen concepts and give a helping hand to the ZP teachers.
Educating villagers by holding talks and Lecture-Demonstrations on Agnihotra and its benefits to the environment and health.
Educating villagers by conducting talks and Lecture-Demonstrations on Zero Budget Natural Farming [ZNBF] to make farming profitable and organic.
Our plan is to keep adopting villages one by one and reach out to maximum people. However this needs monetary resources. And No Trust can work without contributions. Please do note that the Trust is registered and has got the 12A certificate for income tax exemption of the Trust. The Trust has also applied for 80g certificate which is forthcoming.
